@paulcrider That's where I think Tom Wolfe's critiques in "The Painted Word" are relevant. Too much of modern art became esoteric commentary on the theories of other people in the art world.

@storeymoorfield My favorite aspect of that is that his only summary of Ayn Rand's philosophical views is from an "about the author" blurb at the back of the book. Because, you know, there's not much philosophy in the actual novel.
