I’m usually not about period pieces, and I can’t remember having ever read a Western (at least not of my own free wil...). But hello and yes please to this queer, lady gun-slinging romp. I have a feeling this one’s gonna be big, and rightfully so; it’s a delight.

Why it’s not on a ‘real’ 2022 list: This gem came out last year...It’s short and fast-paced even though it’s not traditionally “plotty.” I alternately laughed and cringed aloud while reading. (Can one cringe aloud? I’m going with yes, if you’re deaf :) )

Just finally read Clint Smith's HOW THE WORD IS PASSED and am in awe of his craft--the beauty, clarity, and even-handedness with which he weaves together a complex narrative--and the grace with which he managed to not punch a couple of the people he interviewed.

This book is, to me, the best kind of memoir, one that not only teaches us about the author, but about ourselves. And this one taught me a lot about myself and the history of the country, too. Also, the prose is *chef’s kiss*.
