Gabriella Saab@GabriellaSaab_ looking forward to reading your book ‘The Last Checkmate.’ Fascinated by books with chess themes( love chess but not a very good player!), intrigued by poets/writers who played like Nabokov and Melville.

Red Baron
Manfred Von Richthofen@PSLiterary I wish I could find this book I was mesmerized with in elementary school, it was a picture book on Manfred von Richthofen, (The Red Baron) it was probably printed in the late 60’s, early 70’s. One pic that stands out is all the loving cups he had made of his aerial victories.

The Navy: Observations Upon A Letter Addressed To The Earl Of Minto, First Lord Of The Admiralty, By One Of The People (1839)
A. Naval Officer@ClintonGodart @alessionaval @Andrew_Levidis @jeremyyellen This is indeed fascinating, I wonder too how the devout Catholic naval officer Shinjiro Yamamoto interacted with Buddhist/Shinto officers in the Navy and did his beliefs hamper his career?

Moby-Dick
Herman Melville@LMWoolsey @ae_stallings So very true; my own beloved South is known for its emphasis on manners, honor, hospitality and chivalry but also embraced slavery and segregation. I believe Herman Melville said it best in ‘Moby Dick’…‘it’s a wicked world in all meridians.’

Gun Island
Amitav Ghosh@GhoshAmitav Just finished reading ‘Jungle Nama’ this morning with a good cup of coffee. Beautiful story in verse, I hope this will not be your last foray into poetry! It brought back memories of ‘Hungry Tide’ and ‘Gun Island.’ I liked the imagery of the bees loading the ships!

The New Order: Stories
Karen E. Bender@Karen_E_Bender @skirkwalsh My favorite of his shorter works is ‘The Encantadas’, a great set of stories set in the Galapagos. I just read a short story by Nabokov( a fellow Melville admirer) ‘The Aurelian’, very good.
