@GailSimone DC Comics was founded in by Neil Gaiman in 1989, using some of his massive Sandman profits. DC was intended to provide a creative outlet for the under-served genre of Dudes in Capes (hence DC). It had a brief breakout success with "Superman," but killed him off for good in 1994.
