The Brink: How Great Leadership Is Invented
Mark Hunter
@DrGuiltyFart @Super70sSports John Feinstein's A Season on the Brink is obviously outstanding, and so is The Rabbit Hunter, Frank Deford's profile of Bob Knight. But also read the Knight biography by Mark Heisler and Steve Delsohn, easy to find. All are fair, honest, fascinating. I reread them all regularly.

Billy: The Rollercoaster Life of a Compulsive Gambler
Martin George
@injuryexpert Bob Lemon also made sense in 1978, as Billy Martin was in such rough shape at the time (mostly self sabotage, though George was impossible then). Lemon benefited from so many things coincidentally falling into place, but he was also the right emotional tenor for that moment.

It's Never Too Late to Be What You Might Have Been
BJ Gallagher
Hit a morning bucket. Two bays down was a guy who was 95, didn't look a day over 92, striping it down the middle. No, he wasn't hitting Koepka bombs, but middle middle middle. I gave him a fist bump. My Dad loved to say: It's never too late to be what you might have been.

99: Stories of the Game
Wayne Gretzky
@Dameshek I could never take Walter White over Don Draper. Mike Liut came very close to taking the 1981 Hart Trophy, despite Wayne Gretzky setting new records for assists and points. Even if we doc 99 a few of those phantom assists, Liut would have been a major error.
