@mervatim @lynnsstrong i included The Pumpkin Eater 56 years first year of college for an assigned essay on the modern novel. i chose 3 women writers. the professor, who was a very well-known muckety-muck writer (male; NYRB) had never heard of the book or Penelope Mortimer. so: The Pumpkin Eater? YES.

also: i highly recommend Dr. Rebecca Wragg Sykes @LeMoustier new book Kindred, an update on recent discoveries about Neanderthals, given latest tech tools & analysis, including hypotheses gleaned from teeth.
