To Build a Fire
Jack London
@Climatologist49 @AlaskaWx I still remember reading a Jack London story as a kid, where he describes spit freezing before it hits the ground in temps like these. (I think it was "To Build a Fire.") Surprised there's anyplace left on Earth that gets this cold.

Nuclear Folly: A History of the Cuban Missile Crisis
Serhii Plokhy
@MichaelWWara @JavierBlas Haven't read the latter but _Guns_ seems timely. I just read in Serhii Plokhy’s _Nuclear Folly_ that it heavily influenced JFK's negotiations with Khrushchev during the Cuban missile crisis.
