Humorous Books for Parents

Even writing that title makes me laugh. Natasha is funny. She’s a comedian. But she’s also an anxious, over-thinking mom which makes her stories totally relatable. While your irrational and apocalyptic fears may not be abated, you will find comfort in knowing stars really are just like us. Misery loves company, right?

Julie is one of my favorite parenting writers. In fact, next to my own, she might be my favorite parent. This book is important because so much of the parenting narrative centers around being around other parents or talking about your pregnancy/baby. Those awkward few minutes on the blacktop before the dismissal bell rings, playdates, Mom’s Night Out. Julie gives practical tips on dealing with the constant barrage of attention and expectations in every stage of parenthood. And yes, it’s full of humor.

This book was written for the dads by the dads and if anyone knows how to be awesome, it’s Shannon. With the assistance of a council of dads (how cool is that?), Shannon provides actionable, practical advice for stay-at-home and working dads, while sharing his own personal experiences which are honest, heartwarming, and charming.

My husband gave me this as a gift. Should I be offended? Nah, it’s way too funny! This hysterical, illustrated book details all the crappy things our animal counterparts do to their kids. (Clearly there aren’t any “mom Facebook groups” in the animal kingdom.) You child may think your homemade corn dogs taste like poop, but if you were a koala mom you’d be feeding them actual poop. It’s all about perspective.

Another one for the dads! Andrew is also a stay-at-home dad (they DO exist) and this book is a beautiful testament to the ups, downs, and in-betweens of parenting young children. Yes, there’s lots of humor here but there’s also tons of heart.
