Parenting Books That Won’t Make You Feel Like a Sh*tty Parent

I’ve written four parenting books, and this one is my favorite. (Don’t tell the others!) I wrote this book because it was the one I needed to read when my kids were young, and I figured if I needed the advice, maybe other parents did too!

If I could offer new parents - especially new mothers - one practice, it would be self-compassion. Learning to treat yourself with kindness and curiosity is a game changer, in parenting and life in general.

The skills and strategies in this book weren’t just helpful for my kids, they were useful for me too. Bonus: all of the recommendations in this book were completely do-able for a busy, stressed parent who was already overwhelmed - and they really help!

This book, and the other ones titles in the series, are a masterclass in communication, not just between child and parent, but between any two people.

As someone who has spent far more hours than I can count on both sides of the therapy office, I found this book to be immensely helpful in helping me understand how my upbringing and interpersonal relationships impact my parenting.

I’m a sucker for a book that takes a really tough topic - in this case post-partum depression and anxiety - and makes it accessible and relatable. This is a great one.

Because we all need a little perspective sometimes.

I’m a big fan of mindful parenting, by which I mean, using the principles and practices of mindfulness and self-compassion to inform parenting. Hunter does a great job of explaining all of it in this lovely book!

Wenner Moyer had me at the profane title, and kept me reading with her research-backed insights into how to raise kids who are kind, empathic, honest, and anti-racist - all the good stuff!
