Hughes: Poems: Edited by David Roessel
Langston Hughes
@wudanyan There are probably a lot of right answers, but the first one I thought of was The Collected Poems of Langston Hughes. First got it 30+ years ago, have had to replace it at least once (from falling apart), and I never get sick of it.

Orlando Furioso
Ludovico Ariosto
While that *would* make a badass series for Netflix, Bradamant's adventures were told (at least in part) in Ludovico Ariosto's "Orlando Furioso" -- which was the equivalent of a runaway best-seller in the sixteenth century.

City of Stairs: Book 1 of the Divine Cities trilogy
Robert Jackson Bennett
@cbquist @RosemaryMosco Have you read The Divine Cities series by Robert Jackson Bennett? Those were good. First one is "City of Stairs." Django Wexler's "Shadow Campaigns" series is also good. And Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. (None of these are new.)

Native Son
Richard Wright
One of the books here is "Native Son," by Richard Wright. Published in 1940, Modern Library listed it as one of the 20 best novels of the 20th century. TIME included it on its list of the 100 best English-language novels. I read it in middle school. Florida is banning it in HS. https://t.co/fIgEyaHuHY

Black Smoke: African Americans and the United States of Barbecue
Adrian Miller
Worth a read. And if you haven't read Adrian Miller's book "Black Smoke," it's definitely worth your time -- particularly if you have an interest in U.S. history, food history, or barbecue. https://t.co/X30Ea9jXpt

Indigo Girl
Suzanne Kamata
The shuffle gods just brought up “Prince of Darkness,” and good grief, it’s hard to think of a better major label debut than the Indigo Girls had. Just one amazing song (and performance!) after another.

Victories Greater Than Death
Charlie Jane Anders
I love spoiler-filled recaps. If nothing else, they're super useful when I buy a sequel and can't remember the details of the first book. (I have the sequel to Victories Greater Than Death, but can't remember all the details of the 1st book. And I can't find a good recap!)

One Big Table: One Big Table
Molly O'Neill
@williams_paige Have you read Molly O’Neill’s “One Big Table”? It’s a cookbook/collection of personal stories from across the US. Really delightful (and the recipes are good!).

The Souls of Black Folk
W. E. B. Du Bois
@profblmkelley Also (maybe because it was in the context of a book title?) your question made me think of W.E.B. Du Bois’s “The Souls of Black Folk.”
