Eat Pray Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia
Elizabeth Gilbert
I was just thinking about Elizabeth Gilbert because there's a lot of references to her in Mafia Mamma, a movie I highly recommend. Eat Pray Love didn't age well, but I'm thankful it inspired so many people, especially Mafia Mamma. It's such a funny film lol

Blonde
Joyce Carol Oates
Joyce Carol Oates shouldn't have written Blonde. What could a literary non-hottie know about the exploitation of femme, highly sexualized women - women who look and act like Oates have no compassion or love for women like Marilyn. They're just as bad as men at writing them.

Fall
Child's Play
It was nice to fall in love again, very briefly, to play around with someone like a child, and enjoy coffee together. I'm glad I could walk away, too. I'm proud of myself for showing grace and walking away from the last fight. People can change and grow. I'm surprised in myself.

There There
Tommy Orange
@iammnova Outside/Inside the genre: I also love the nonfiction work within the fiction of "There There," by Tommy Orange. He's got these essays within the book that were the best essays I read all year. Also, Arielle Twist's poetry is narrative and nonfiction in many ways! It's amazing.

The Next American Essay
John D'Agata
white people need to be kinder to us and our knowledge. We can help. If they treat our stories, our knowledge, our oral history as primary text. Anyway, I like John D'Agata. "The Next American Essay" was formative for me.
