@joshuarothes I once had someone come into my bookshop and ask for a copy of “The Beautiful Room is Empty”. I told him not to bother, it wasn’t a patch on Edmund White’s earlier “A Boy’s Own Story”. Unfortunately, the prospective buyer was Edmund White. We laughed about it – some years later
